I tell parents the best age to start teaching your child to swim is 2-18 months. And you can start at home without a pool using a kitchen sink, dressing mirror, mattress, and a bath tub.
This is no different than early learning backyard sports skills with your kids you want them to transfer to the playing field or court. Only in swimming you transfer to the shallow end of a pool or lake where your child – not your waist deep but their waist deep – can stand up.
